Cats in need have a habit of
finding their way to Shadow Cats Founder and
President, Sheila Smith. Jerry showed up under
her car at work one day, slinking around looking
scruffy and possibly injured. Soon Jerry was in
a trap and on his way to Central Texas Cat
Hospital (CTCH) for a full workup. He had some
minor injuries which were treated, and he needed
to be neutered, but in a few days he was all
cleaned up and looking and feeling much better.
At the sanctuary, though, we noticed that Jerry
walked with a very noticeable limp, so he went
back to CTCH for some x-rays. It turned out that
he had at one time had a broken back leg that
had healed very unevenly. He must have been
badly injured in the past but managed to hobble
around on his own until the leg healed up. The
bone was never set, and now one leg is shorter
than the other. The x-rays also showed a good
bit of buckshot throughout Jerry’s body.
With all he’s been through, you couldn’t blame
Jerry if he was grumpy or aggressive. But he’s
not – he is the sweetest cat you’ll ever meet.
Everyone fell in love with him immediately at
the sanctuary, and he’s all settled in to a safe
and secure life in the Outback. He’s the first
in line at feeding time, and never misses a
chance for a lap. Whatever his past, Jerry’s
future is filled with love and caring now.
UPDATE: On
October 12, 2010, Jerry went to his forever home with
new parents, Mark and Kimberly!
As you can see from the photos,
Jerry has adjusted very well to his new home!
He has rediscovered his inner kitten and loves
to lay in the sun and play with his toys.
He is also obsessed with finding cozy spots on
the couches for his morning nap. He likes to
wake them on the weekends by licking their faces
if they sleep past his preferred breakfast time.
Of course, as many Shadow Cats volunteers know,
Jerry loves sitting on laps. Recently, Mark and
Kimberly were watching a movie and Jerry moved
back and forth between them, enjoying as much
lap time as possible. Jerry really loves
being a part of their family, and Mark and
Kimberly told us "we are grateful to have him in
our lives".
What a true happily-ever-after
story!

Where's my
kibble?!?!

Who's the cutest?

Play, then pass
out.
