Texas Tea

Texas Tea…the little kitten who got lucky twice

One life-changing stroke of good luck in a little kitten’s life is a wonderful thing.  Two, in just two months, is nothing short of miraculous – and shows how quickly a cat’s life can change for the better when caring people step in.

Earlier this spring Shadow Cats was contacted about several community cats who had new kittens and were about to become victims of a nearby extremely aggressive pit bull.  The dog had already injured one cat and was almost certain to get the kittens as soon as they grew enough to start moving around and exploring.  We took in the mamas and all of their kittens on an emergency basis. There was no space in the sanctuary for a gaggle of newborns so they took up temporary residence in the Shadow Cats office.  All of the kittens flourished and grew – snatched almost literally from the jaws of death just in the nick of time.

The word went out, and our extended community responded to the call for extra support to help with this rescue effort.  And as the kittens grew up and became even more adorable, adopters were found for almost all of them…..except for two little black kittens, one of whom was Texas Tea.

But fate can be a powerful force, and amazing good fortune can bless the same kitty more than once.  Mary, a longtime Shadow Cats supporter in New Hampshire, just happened to be in Round Rock for several days to visit the sanctuary.  She fell in love with all the cats at the sanctuary, of course…but when she met little Texas Tea something special happened.

So instead of feeling left out, suddenly Texas Tea found herself in a carrier on Mary’s lap in an airplane zooming back to what would become her forever home in New Hampshire.  She’s now busy getting to know her new brothers and sisters, and finding out what it’s like to be the most pampered little kitten in town…well, maybe in the whole state!

One new sister has already gone from hissing at her to kissing her on the nose – the tiny Texan is winning over Yankee kitty hearts quickly.  Looks like it may take little Texas Tea a while to grow into those cowboy boots, though.  ;o)

After a very precarious start in life, quick action by several guardian angels changed this little kitten’s future dramatically.  It only took a moment for someone to take the action that resulted in these cats being rescued, and it only took a second for little Texas Tea to look into Mary’s eyes and melt her heart.  From no future at all, she has suddenly gone to having the best future any cat could hope for.

Texas Tea had one last brother, Magic, who was not yet adopted. After going home to New Hampshire, Mary decided that Texas Tea and Magic really belonged together, so three weeks later she flew back to Austin to get Magic.  So now both of those cowboy boots have a kitten in them!
