Helping in the Kitchen

I like to go into the kitchen whenever Mom’s there, she’s almost always doing something really interesting. She has a stool next to the counter, and sometimes she sits on it when she’s working but when she’s not using it I like to get up on top of it and see what she’s doing on the counter. Tiger Lily likes to get up there too, and usually there’s only room for one of us but the other day I really wanted to be up there too so I jumped right up and squeezed in beside her.

We’re not allowed to touch anything on the counter, not even with one paw, and Mom scolds us if we do. But sometimes that’s really hard, like when there’s something that smells good right in front of us. Yesterday Mom had just finished making salads with chicken on top. We LOVE chicken – that’s our favorite flavor of Fancy Feast, and fresh grilled chicken is even better. So she moved the stool away from the counter so that we wouldn’t be tempted to lean over and snitch a piece. At Thanksgiving Mom was setting the table for dinner and came back into the kitchen and found a piece of turkey on the floor – Tiger Lily had jumped right up on the counter and took a big piece off the plate when nobody was looking!

Sometimes Tiger Lily can be a little bossy. She was on top of the stool one day and could see that I wanted to come up there too but she wouldn’t let me up. So instead I climbed up under her, and we played a little game swatting at each other. That was fun too – but the view is better from the top!
