You can sort of
tell from some of these photos that Neville is a big guy. Just over
twenty pounds of big,
to be exact. And a good portion of that weight,
no doubt, is his big cuddly heart!
Neville came to Shadow Cats as part of the
“Great Kitty Rescue” through the Best Friends
organization. When you see him today, it’s
almost impossible to imagine him living – just
barely – in the Nevada desert in an out-of-control cat hoarding situation. Luckily for
Neville, he can forget those days and just enjoy his new life at
the sanctuary. Neville has some "food
issues" - as in he never can seem to get enough!
He's steadily gained weight since coming here in
2007. In a group setting it's all but
impossible to regulate an individual cat's diet,
but with our feline leukemia cats we tend to not
worry as much about a few extra pounds - it
gives them extra reserves to draw on when
something eventually goes wrong.
Neville’s rescue was especially timely. As a
feline leukemia cat, he wouldn’t have lasted
long in the desert. But at the sanctuary, with
the very best of daily attention and the finest
in medical care from Dr. Smith, Neville’s
prospects are much better. You can often spot
him on the KittyCam, and he’s gradually grown
more receptive to attention from people,
especially once he gets to know you. But if
you’re a stranger to him, you’ll usually just
see him heading out the kitty door to the
outside enclosure when you first come into the
room. With some cats you won’t even see that –
but with Neville, you’ll at least see his back
end slowly squeezing out the kitty door…because
it just barely fits. ;o)
