SPONSOR-A-CAT

I have 2 sponsors!

Polly isn't one of the boldest cats in Cookie's Place, but she is definitely one of the sweetest. I love sitting with her on her couch (even though she isn't ALWAYS on it I think of it as hers). I was shocked when I realized she was one of the cats rescued in Nevada. It's amazing to me that she is able to trust and love despite those experiences. I hope that my company once a week brings her happiness, and I hope that my tiny monetary gift will be helpful to the wonderful people at Shadow Cats who gave her a wonderful home.  --Kate Layman--

Polly                     Born 12/13/05

Ever have a friend who’s as sweet as can be, and you love her dearly, but there’s just that one thing she does that makes you want to scream? Well, that’s Polly! She’s soft, fluffy, adorable, and loves to sit in your lap and cuddle. Sounds perfect, right? Well, almost, except for that one little thing. When they passed out maternal instincts, Polly must not have been paying attention. She had a downright mean streak towards kittens when she first arrived at the sanctuary. Over the years, though, she’s mellowed quite a bit and now only does an occasional halfhearted swat with one paw if a kitten wanders by a little too closely.

Polly came to us as part of the Great Kitty Rescue in 2007, when hundreds of cats were saved from a terrible situation in the Nevada desert. She’s gorgeous, with very distinctive markings, and has the softest, silkiest long fur of just about any cat at the sanctuary. Most of the cats here came to us with names, and we make a practice of keeping whatever name they have. Polly was named by her rescuers, and since there were many hundreds of cats we can only assume that when they got to her, all the good names had been taken – they named her Skunkette! Well, we couldn’t let a gorgeous girl like this be stuck with a name like that, so we made an exception and changed her name. So while we don’t know the origin of most of our cats’ names, we do know Polly’s. She’s easy to spot on the KittyCam…she looks a lot like a...well, you know.  ;o)
