Doesn’t little Venus look so innocent and
peaceful here? Well, looks can be deceiving!
We’ve taken to calling her “Venus Vesuvius” or
“Venus Volcano” because she seems to be a
constant explosion of energy. This gorgeous,
tiny little kitten was born with the feline
leukemia virus, FeLV, and wound up at Austin’s
Town Lake Animal Center. An FeLV+ cat is not
eligible for adoption at almost any shelter,
including TLAC. They know that Shadow Cats is
just about the only place around that takes in
FeLV+ cats, so it’s standard practice for them
to check with us whenever they have one and see
if we have a space available. Somehow though,
this time that didn’t happen and Venus was
scheduled for…..well, not a happy place.
Luckily, though, a staff member noticed on her
paperwork that there was no mention of Shadow
Cats being contacted and gave us a call.
The rest, as they say, is history. Now Venus is
well on the way to becoming the princess of the
sanctuary. In fact, you won’t see her on the
KittyCam because she lives in the bedroom,
having completely stolen Sheila and Dr. Smith’s
hearts. But she already has one video on our
website, and that likely won’t be her last!
