Tammy Faye

Tammy Faye isn’t the first stray cat we’ve trapped in the neighborhood around the sanctuary, but she was one of the hardest to catch! Her mom, Heidi, was spotted carrying a newborn kitten so we set out to trap all of them. We managed to get Heidi and several of the kittens, but we couldn’t figure out where she was keeping the others. So we had to keep letting Heidi go so she could continue caring for the remaining kittens. Several were trapped, fostered, and found adoptive homes, but it took two more weeks to finally catch Heidi and that last kitten, Tammy Faye. They’ve now taken up residence in the Wild Side, and it’s clear that Heidi had been a community cat for all of her life. She’s very, very wary of people and stays mostly hidden, and Tammy Faye has learned from her to be shy and wary.

At first, Tammy Faye stayed mostly hidden away in some of the small cozy houses where the cats feel secure, but she occasionally ventures out. We’ve seen this before with feral cats, and almost always they get used to seeing people around every day – especially when they realize that those people don’t try to grab them and that they bring plates of food. We have all the patience in the world and will let Tammy Faye take as long as she needs to adjust.

“I am sponsoring Tammy Faye in the name of my own kitty, Rashid Marshall.  Rashid almost died from acute kidney failure when he was 6 and I swore that if he lived, I would help other sick kitties live too.  I am grateful for my Rashid’s life and for the opportunity to help make Tammy Faye’s life as long and happy as possible.”
