Bear

Hardly anyone can forget the Central Texas flooding this July that claimed so many lives and displaced countless others. Animals were caught in the crossfire, too, and that is how we came to know our sweet Bear, who, much like his namesake, is as fluffy as can be.

Bear was TNR’d after the July 4th flooding by a good Samaritan working alongside rescue efforts. She kept Bear temporarily, as she already had animals of her own, and soon found what she hoped would be a permanent adopter for this sweet kitty. Unfortunately, she never heard from them again. Bear, intact at the time, began spraying in the home and was put back outside.

Eventually, Bear found his way to Kerr County Animal Services, where he was tested for feline leukemia. He tested positive, placing this young cat’s life at immediate risk. The wonderful team at Kerr County worked quickly to find him placement, and we were grateful to have the space to welcome him into our ranks.

Bear is still adjusting to life at the sanctuary. To say he’s had a harrowing few months would be an understatement, one new environment after another, with no chance to feel settled. But little by little, we know we’ll see Bear begin to unwind in the most spectacular way. He is currently being treated for uveitis, and we’re hopeful that with time and care, his third eyelids will retract normally. And if they never do, that’s okay too. Bear is safe now, and this sweet little snuggle bug finally has a place to call his own… and for the first time in a long time, peace.
