Bowie earns his name from the iconic David Bowie, thanks to his striking eyes and, yes, his anisocoria, with pupils of two different sizes. It’s an unmistakable look, but it’s far from the most interesting thing about him.
Bowie came to Shadow Cats after a heartbreaking situation in which another sanctuary was forced to close with very little notice. They reached out in hopes of placement for some of their most vulnerable cats, and we were honored to step in, especially for Bowie, one of their most complex medical cases.
He appears to suffer from a severe flea allergy and has a tendency to overgroom, which led to painful wounds along his lower back. Though he’s only been with us just over a week, we’ve already begun treatment and are seeing encouraging progress. While Bowie would strongly argue that the cone is a personal affront, we’re hopeful it won’t be part of his wardrobe for much longer. And though his downturned little mouth is adorably unique, it’s thankfully not causing him any discomfort and is likely genetic.
Despite arriving shy and understandably nervous, Bowie has blossomed in an astonishingly short amount of time. He’s revealed himself to be warm, affectionate, and deeply loving; a gentle soul who seems eager to connect. We can’t wait to see the bonds he forms and how he chooses to spend his days once he’s fully settled into the comfort and safety of Wildside.
