Heidi isn’t the first stray cat we’ve trapped in the neighborhood around the sanctuary, but she was probably the hardest to catch! She was spotted carrying a newborn kitten so we set out to trap all of them. We managed to get Heidi and several of the kittens, but not all of them. We just couldn’t figure out where she was keeping them, so we had to keep letting her go so she could continue caring for the remaining kittens we hadn’t caught yet.
Two of the kittens were trapped, fostered, and found adoptive homes, but it took several more weeks to finally catch Heidi and that last kitten, Tammy Faye. It became clear that Heidi has been a stray or feral for all of her life. She’s very, very wary of people and stays mostly hidden. After being confined with Tammy Faye in a small area to get used to the sanctuary, they now have the run of Wild Side.
