Stanley showed up in a friend’s backyard just before Christmas. Not knowing his situation they trapped him and took him in for a checkup. He was in good health except for some ear mites, didn’t seem hungry or skinny, and had been neutered but not microchipped. Thinking he must belong to a new neighbor, they cleaned him up and released him, but Stanley began hanging around, and over the next few months grew increasingly gaunt. When he first showed up, he didn’t seem interested in food but later started gobbling up anything they offered him. So they took him to the vet again and found that he had a fever. It seemed apparent that Stanley was either lost or abandoned, and after getting over his fever couldn’t be turned loose to fend for himself. So we invited him to the Shadow Cats sanctuary in June 2013.
Stanley is a healthy and absolutely gorgeous cat, although he always appears to be frowning. No worries – he’s happy but that’s just the way his face looks! He likes a bit of space, and really enjoys roaming all the perches on the screen porch to watch the birdies. And now that he’s used to life at the sanctuary, he’s become more social and often swings past for a few pets when volunteers are around.
