Valentino showed up at a feral colony one day in 2012 wearing a collar and looking every bit like a lost and forlorn cat in need of help. Unfortunately, he was not microchipped and all attempts to locate an owner were unsuccessful. Luckily, he had the good fortune to turn up at a Shadow Cats colony and soon found himself at the sanctuary.
Valentino was a favorite among the volunteers and caregivers, but he soon developed a weight problem – he just kept steadily gaining, month after month, and when he hit 23 pounds we began taking serious measures to get that under control. Living in a communally fed environment made it even more difficult to manage his weight and he topped out at 28 pounds.
Valentino was adopted by one of our long-time volunteers and lived happily for four glorious years! Not only that, Rick put Valentino on a strict diet and we’re happy to say he has been under 20 pounds for the last two years.
Valentino came back to the Sanctuary in June 2021 after his loving guardian passed away. He settled in here fairly well but still, it wasn’t HIS home or HIS person. We were so thrilled when long-time friend Martha W. offered to be his Forever Foster. With Martha, he will be an only cat (his dream!) and have the unending adoration that he longs for.
Valentino remains our financial responsibility while at the same time receiving the loving one-on-one care and attention he so desperately desires. Martha will watch his weight diligently and keep him a healthy twenty pounder! We still ask for your sponsorship for Val as he remains our responsibility.
