Freya

In Memory of Freya    2/21/2015 – 11/27/2019

Many remember the story of Freya, a community cat that had been caught in an illegal and inhumane leg trap in 2015. She had dragged her way into a crawl space under a house in Austin, frightened and in great pain. Our incredible trappers were able to get to her and release her leg from the trap and get her to a veterinary clinic. After months of recovery, Freya was then adopted and loved by the Good Samaritan who contacted us initially; she dearly wanted to look after and care for this little girl.

We hoped Freya would learn to trust people, and in early 2018 her guardian felt Freya needed more space, so after careful consideration by all involved, she came to Shadow Cats. Freya never became a lap cat. She was still fearful but we believe she knew she was loved. She never knew hunger, she had the best of care, she lived her life on her terms and we accepted her just as she was. She was free to be.

Freya developed sudden onset cardiac symptoms and passed surrounded by love. Not alone, a gentle passing, and that is a blessing we hold dear to our hearts.

We give special thanks and great appreciation to Sandy Frederick, her long time caregiver and sponsor, and her sponsors Bill Fifield and Dave Roseberry and Joani Tompkins. Thank you to our staff and volunteers and thank you to all that loved her from afar.

Wild at heart, now rest in peace, our little feral angel. You were loved.
