Shadow

In Memory of Shadow    08/08/2012 – 10/16/2026

Shadow came to us in May of 2018, but before that she had been a clinic cat at CTCH under the watchful eye of Dr. Smith since 2013. Shadow came with very bad seizures, and lived at the clinic until they were certain the seizures were well under control. She then came to the new Shadow Cats Sanctuary when Dr. Smith retired.

Shadow was a wild child in her earlier years; a little unpredictable, loving the hands that held her and then biting them! She loved to do her part helping with paperwork at the reception desk, and making sure all the records stayed organized. In her later years at the Sanctuary, she did mellow out some, but she stayed on our caution list right until the very end. She loved to tummy trap you – showing off her belly, then as soon as she convinced you it was safe to pet, that’s when she would strike and bite your hand.

In her quieter moments, her favorite place to sleep was under the blanket on the couch. We ended up having to get a sign made for people to look for her before sitting down to prevent someone from sitting on her unknowingly! When colder weather came to Texas, she would snuggle up in the fluffiest bed alongside Tabbytha. She definitely preferred the colder weather! This is the time we would often see glimpses of her younger self – running on top of the cabinets and climbing the shelves as high as she could go.

Shadow, although a little bitey, was the perfect patient. She was fantastic for taking her meds and other handling; one time she even let the staff use her to practice our fear-free towel wrapping skills without complaint. She became one of our door greeters, enjoying her time hanging out on the cat tree next to the door to make sure she got pets as soon as anyone walked in. She was a favorite of many of our volunteers, who would look for her first when coming in for their shift and spending some time with her on their lap or brushing her.

Unfortunately, even though her seizures had been under control for years, there was something brewing. An unexpected emergency left her unable to recover, and the decision was made to let her pass peacefully without suffering.

Shadow had a wonderful life, with many beautiful moments to remember her by. She touched so many lives and will live on in our memories. She no longer has to have medication or worry about her brain failing her, and can be her true self on the other side of the rainbow bridge, reunited with all the other clinic cats who have passed on before her.

Thank you to Shadow’s sponsor, Carol Ann J., for supporting her throughout the years. Thank you to the volunteers and staff who saw after her and were the subject of many face butts. To our friends at Vista Vet and their wonderful care Shadow received, thank you. And to the many people who loved Shadow, whether in person or from afar, thank you.

Our lovely Shadow, thank you for all the wonderful years spent with us. Find the highest shelf to rest upon over the Rainbow Bridge. We love you, Shadow, and we always will.
