In Memory of Avery 4/15/2006 – 7/17/2018
Our big, beautiful black panther has passed. Avery came to us in a litter of feral kittens along with his mom in 2006 . Mom was TNR’d and all the kittens except Avery were adopted. While Avery did not hit the adoption lotto, he did live a sheltered and well loved life here at the Sanctuary for twelve years. Over that time he became more and more social. Avery would come when called and he waited patiently each morning for his daily insulin and the breakfast he knew would follow. He loved to be brushed and would gladly sit to enjoy it fully.
This morning Avery was taken to the hospital where we had to make a difficult decision to let him pass. Avery was throwing small clots leading to coagulation and bleeding problems. It was all very quick and Avery passed in loving arms.
We’ll always remember Avery as a stunning black cat who didn’t realize his own magnificence. A little afraid of his own shadow, it was only in the last five years or so that he began to believe that he was indeed all that we told him he was – beautiful, strong, smart and so very loved.
We’ll miss you sweet boy. You won’t be forgotten. You were something special.
Avery had 4 Sponsors
“I’m so happy to be able to sponsor Avery. I have a soft spot in my heart for big boys and black cats. He fits both! And, when I came to visit my first sponsoree, Elliott, Avery made himself right at home, next to me, in the bed I brought for Elliott. That’s when I knew I would have to add Avery to my sponsoree list of kitties at SC and the Central Texas SPCA. Thanks for giving him and all the other cats a safe, loving, comfortable home!”

“I’m very excited to sponsor Avery. I have a soft spot for black kitties since they are often overlooked. I met Avery and sat and petted him for a goo half-hour and he loved every minute of it, as did I!”

“One of my favorite cats at Shadow Cats Rescue!”
