In Memory of Chipper 1/15/2002 – 1/31/2018
The year was 2004. The Round Rock City Manager had told us about a cat under his house with kittens. It took several days but after trapping her and her kittens, they all came to Shadow Cats where this wild little child nursed her babies and helped them grow into strong, older kittens that went on to be adopted. We named mama, “Chipper” and released her back to her home area where she was cared for for several years. In 2007, her guardians moved and at that point Chipper came to Shadow Cats and has lived a full life with us since.
Chipper has gone from a protective feral mama cat living under a house to a cat that in recent years sought out company, loved being brushed and petted and ate chicken out of your hand. We have watched over and cared for Chipper all her life and always on her terms.
As Chipper began to fail these past few months, we worked to supplement her feedings, fluids and treatments to help her have as much quality time as possible. The thought of losing Chipper made us all take pause and the reality of her passing today has ended yet another era at Shadow Cats.
She made it clear to all of us that today was her day, that she was ready to leave us. The sorrow of her passing is ours, the tears are ours. Precious Chipper is at peace now. She left us surrounded by loving hearts and held in our arms. Her passing was gentle and peaceful and we are so happy we could give her this final gift.
Rest in peace, Chipper. You marked our hearts forever.

“I rescued a beautiful longhaired brown cowboy cat named Chipper from Arlington’s shelter last November, he is a real sweetheart. Today I saw your beautiful Chipper and I want to sponsor her as well as gorgeous Jodie.”
