In Memory of Hudson 02/18/2016-06/01/2026
Hudson came from a heartbreaking hoarding situation in January 2026, rescued along with his friends Meeko and Enzo. He arrived as an emaciated senior boy with Feline Leukemia, and we soon learned he had kidney disease, anemia and severe stomatitis with tongue ulcers that made every bite of food excruciating. Pain had become his baseline, hunger was constant, and comfort was something he had rarely known.
Yet from the moment he arrived at Shadow Cats, Hudson showed us his true self. He ate so well despite the pain and sought the comforting embrace of our wonderful staff and volunteers. Despite the difficulties he faced, his heart was still so incredibly open and he was so resilient.
Hudson was energetic and deeply food-motivated, but more than anything he loved people. He greeted everyone like he’d never had a bad day in his life, looking up at you with his long canines always showing. As soon as he noticed someone sitting in the room, he would immediately jump in their lap no matter which other kitty had gotten there first. He fit so seamlessly into Cookie’s Cottage, instantly getting along with all the other cats, especially falling in love with our sweet Josie, always snuggling next to her. Even Coraline’s sass didn’t faze him one bit. Though he knew both Meeko and Enzo, he gravitated towards Enzo and kept by his side, always checking in with him, and showing him that it was okay to trust in people.
After four precious months Hudson’s body could no longer keep up. His anemia worsened very suddenly, and he stopped eating. We knew it was his time, so we gave him the final gift of a gentle passing, surrounded by those who loved him. We choose not to focus on the shortness of his stay, but on how much he was cherished during every moment of it.
Hudson now stands at the rainbow bridge, with Meeko there to meet him on the other side. He’s free of all pain and able to be fully himself again.
Thank you to his amazing sponsors Linda L. and Laura A. Thank you to the volunteers who loved and spoiled him, giving him all the attention he deserved.
