In Memory of Nascar 3/1/2016 – 6/18/2022
Nascar lived up to his name!
This little bitty tuxedo kitten was trapped in Arlington TX, ands taken to the shelter for TNR. The R part of TNR (return) was never going to happen – this tuxie lad was as sweet and lovable as can be, so he went into foster care to await adoption. Routine testing indicated he was positive for leukemia. Our good friends in Arlington contacted us and Nascar was on his way to Shadow Cats. He did not know it, but he was going to have his best life, however long or short.
When Nascar arrived, we swear, he was a blur right out of the carrier! He only knew one speed at that was top speed! An energetic, playful kitten, full of life, lovable, and sweet. Nassie, our nickname for him, was the cutest kitten. He had some rather big ears when he was little and we would tell him he had to grow into those ears. And did he ever! As he grew older he became the most stunningly handsome grown up boy. He had the most gorgeous eyes – there always seemed to be a twinkle in them. When we talked to him we felt as though he was really listening to us, but in reality we think he may have been planning his next mischief making! He was the most mischievous lovable boy, always on the top shelves on the catio looking down at us and zooming around after toys. Jumping on our shoulders was a favorite trick, too! He made us laugh and smile with his constant antics! He was also quite popular amongst his roommates – he always had a playmate and a cuddle buddy! He gave the best cuddles to us humans, too! A member of the chicken gang as well, whenever a volunteer brought boiled chicken, he was front and center, sometimes waiting not so patiently. That was Nascar, always on the go!
The effects of leukemia began to take their toll a little while back. A few months ago we thought we were going to lose him but he defied all the odds and told us in no uncertain terms, I’m not ready yet! He has enjoyed his time on the catio in the sun and the company of all his best buddies in the past months. We have cherished the extra time.
Over the last few days Nascar began to tell us he was tired. The fight had left him and he could not stay this time. Today we gave him the most precious gift we can give, a gentle peaceful passing. He was held in loving arms, he heard sweet whispers telling him he was loved beyond measure and soft singing as he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Nassie, you lived your life to the fullest. It wasn’t as long as we hoped for, but every day, you played hard, you went full steam ahead from the day you arrived. You were loved and cherished every single day and every single day was the best it could be. Your life and you mattered. Our hearts are heavy. We will miss you terribly, our handsome tuxie boy, but we know you truly lived your best life at the sanctuary. When we think of you it will always be with a smile. Nascar, you made us smile every day, thank you, sweet one.
We had 6 wonderful years. Too short a time, but filled to the brim with love for our handsome tuxie boy! Cookie’s Place will be a little quieter without you.
Rest easy, precious Nascar. Fly high on your wings. Romp and play and cause mischief across the Bridge!
Our thanks to our loving, caring staff who looked after Nascar every single day. Thanks to his sponsors, our volunteers, and all who knew precious Nascar far and wide.
