In Memory of Noelle 05/15/03 – 12/29/16
On a cold winters night many years ago and around this time of year, a little black declawed cat was eeking out a living on Austin streets. Tiny but mighty, she did her best. Lucky for her, she was rescued and brought home, where she promptly bit the rescuer’s dad! Another stroke of luck – the rescuer belonged to an entire family of animal advocates and they worked diligently to find the right home for her.
Since she was rescued during the holidays, her name became Noelle. She settled in at Shadow Cats and gained all the respect of the other cats and her humans. Only seven pounds at her peak, she knew exactly how to reign supreme. Often, declawed cats will resort to biting behaviors if their first line of defense is taken away, and she honed that skill mightily. We all respected those teeth!
Over the years and with constant reinforcement, Noelle seemed to mellow out. She enjoyed small amounts of petting, stroking and even allowed lap time for her favorite people. Noelle lived a full and happy life here at Shadow Cats for well over a decade. She lived her best life and it was a good one. We take our hats off to this fine little lady who ruled us all.
Noelle passed gently surrounded by loving hands. At the end, all she wanted were soothing reassurances and comforting whispers. She knew the love of those that cared for her daily needs, the volunteers, her sponsors and her extended family here. Thank you for giving this little wisp of a girl so very much- she was one of the lucky ones.
