In Memory of Samantha 10/06/1995 – 05/04/2017
Our incredible and most precious grande dame of the Sanctuary, Samantha, has passed. Our only comfort is knowing the quality of her long life here at Shadow Cats.
Samantha was born in Oct 1995 and spent her first years as a feral community cat. Upon trapping her and her two kittens in 1997, she became one of the first residents at the Sanctuary.
She spent her initial year here settling down and acclimating to indoor life. Once she decided this was just her style, she never looked back. Although she was never a lap cat until her later years, she spent many a contented day basking in the sun and enjoying her life.
Samantha enjoyed living Downtown for many years, filled with playmates, lots of birds and other wildlife to entertain her. She could run on all the shelves and ramps way up high, or go way back in the corner under the porch if she felt like it. She could sit along the screened-in walls and enjoy the breeze, or watch the squirrels playing in all the vines and trees.
In 2012, she moved primarily into the Uptown area so we could watch her closer while giving her a comfortable place to spend her golden years. However, Samantha had a mind of her own and decided she wanted to be in both areas. She was one of the few that had the run of the entire Sanctuary, both in Uptown and Downtown areas. Despite her tiny little body, she ruled us all.
Over the last year, Samantha slowly declined. Today was her day to bid us farewell. While we are devastated at losing our girl, we know she’s had an incredibly long life, that she was content and that she had a life so many don’t have the opportunity to enjoy. We are grateful for that.
Thank you to her nannies, volunteers, sponsors and her extended FB family who made her life so much better. Samantha is at peace.
