Sergeant

In Memory of Sergeant       5/14/2020 – 1/9/2023

Our sweet Sergeant was one of The California Four, the Cali-cats as they were known. This gorgeous boy was the only boy in the group. They stole our hearts from the moment they arrived. Of course, being the only boy Sergeant was a favorite right from the get-go! They were so much fun and a joy to behold.

Sergeant was the cutest kitten and he grew into the most handsome cat. He was a stunner! His personality was huge, too. He did not meet another cat that he did not get along with and he certainly did not meet one of us humans that he did not like. He was sweet, handsome, outgoing, full of life, and had the softest coat.

We have always said that growing up his three ‘sisters’ Frankie, Gracie and Jacky taught him the best manners and guided him to be one of the best cats, which he sure was.

The most playful boy, he would greet you as you walked into Cookies and would sit at your feet asking for a lap or a shoulder or just to climb up your leg, just wanting to be loved. Of course, we were happy to oblige always. Shoelaces were never safe around Sergeant as he loved to chew on them! He was full of energy, non-stop, a blur running back and forth always on the go, enjoying his life to the fullest. He loved to be outside on the catio soaking up the sun and watching all the goings on with rabbits, the birds at the feeders, and ‘stuff’ happening. A leaf floating in the wind held wonder for him to watch. He was a happy boy!

As we know with feline leukemia things can change in an instant. We are never prepared for the suddenness and shock of this sometimes. Sergeant had been feeling quiet for the last couple of days, and he was constantly being monitored. A sudden drastic change happened today so Sergeant was rushed to our hospital. Leukemia had taken its toll and our kindest and final gift was to give him a gentle and peaceful passing surrounded by those that loved him dearly.

Still a youngster and gone too soon, Sergeant lived a full life, his best life. Rescued from the streets of Irvine, CA, he knew what it was to be loved deeply and cared for every day. We know he took these memories with him of a life lived well, albeit short. He had a chance and that’s what we give all the precious feline leukemia kitties that call Shadow Cats home.

Just before he was rushed to the hospital, his sister Jacky came over to him and gave him a kiss. The most beautiful moment… they know ….so many tears.

Rest easy, our precious Sergeant/ You stole our hearts the day you came and you take a bit part of our hearts with you. You will be missed so much dear boy, loved more than we can say. Reunited with your sister, Frankie, who was waiting for you …
