Winston

In Memory of Winston    10/7/2000 – 11/23/2017

It is with a sad heart that we let you know our Winston has passed. He had a neurological event a few days ago. At first, we were hoping it was simply a seizure, but it turned out to be more than that, most likely a stroke. He rallied a bit yesterday but has quickly gone down overnight. This morning he is blind and has lost use of his back legs. He has told us he is ready to cross over. Sometimes the kindest gift we can give is to listen.

We give great thanks today for Winston’s life. While he was with us such a short time, at the end, he was pain free – his feet were healthy, his mouth was healthy and we couldn’t keep up with the amount of food he could consume. ;) He lived in the moment and during his few months at Shadow Cats, he was loved, petted, put on a few pounds and never ran out of laps. He was warm, dry and safe. He had so many friends who loved and supported him from all over the country, so many who were rooting for him. While it was not to be for him to have a long life at the Sanctuary, we always focus on the quality, and believe us when we say, Winston had it all.

The kindest gift we can give now is a gentle passage. Winston crossed over early this morning held in loving arms, surrounded by his nannies and volunteers. He was wrapped in love.

Thank you to his nannies who looked after him each day and loved him, to the volunteers who spent time with him, to our amazing sponsors and donors who made it possible to support his needs and loved him from afar and to his initial rescuer who saw this 17 year old cat sitting forlornly in a shelter cage and sought help for him. We are all a chorus of love and support who work together to make life better  for cats like Winston, no matter how long or short that life may be.

Rest in peace, sweet boy, you were so loved.
