In Memory of Hope 1/9/2010 – 8/4/2022
Our precious girl has only been with us a few months. We knew when she came to us in January she was not doing well. This pretty girl was found wandering the streets in Hays County, a plan was made and she was trapped. She was given care and at a veterinary checkup she was found to be microchipped, but sadly her guardian had passed away. She was also found to be FeLV+. At almost 12 years old and not in good health, there was not much ‘Hope’ of a good outcome for this pretty girl. We were contacted by a good Samaritan and with the help of one of our board members, we welcomed Hope to the sanctuary. We don’t know why she ended up on the streets, but we did know that this senior gal deserved to be given the best life she could have.
She was named Hope by the good Samaritan who helped get her to safety, and it just fit her – she was full of hope and so were we that she would be able to feel better and enjoy some of the good life we would give her. She was delicate and struggling with health issues all related to leukemia.
Hope was the sweetest, most loving kitty, a little shy at first, but she soon settled into life in Cookies Annex. This area is for some of the older FeLV kitties or ones that like it a little quieter than being with some of the young’uns in the main Cookie’s room that are always on the go! Hopie (you know we always have nicknames) would always come to say hello when you walked in the room, even if asleep she gets up and would come and give us head bumps, as though she was just checking in and giving us updates on her day. We felt that Hopie was that sort of kitty that wanted to make us humans feel good, she wanted to give love to us. We are sure all our friends understand this about certain kitties. We loved her to bits. As soon as she arrived our hearts were stolen by this girl.
Hope lived her last few months to the fullest. She was home. She had a big comfy bed to sleep in, she had kitty friends, she had a huge catio, she could wander in and out and relax in sunbeams when she wanted, and she could watch all the happenings in the garden outside. She had a great appetite and we knew she could tell time because she would be waiting even before we had prepared meals or a can had been opened. 😊
Some of our leukemia kitties are with us for many years, some are with us for a much shorter time. Our precious Hope was with us for about 7 months. We loved her very much, and she has had the best care. We have snuggled with her, played with her, showered her with love, and been privileged to be part of her life. We are so glad she was with us; we gave her the best of us and she gave us the best of her in return.
But, after doing everything we could to make her feel better, the effects of leukemia had taken their toll and sadly Hope told us she was tired and could no longer fight; it was her time. Hope crossed the Rainbow Bridge ever so gently and peacefully surrounded by love and light cradled in loving arms listening to sweet whispers telling her how much she was loved. We hoped that all the memories she had of life on the streets were gone and she knew of nothing but love when she left us.
We will miss you, sweet Hopie, gone but never forgotten. You will always be in our hearts. Rest easy, pretty girl.
Our thanks to our caring, dedicated staff, our volunteers, her sponsors, and to all at Sam Bass Veterinary Wellness.
